2 Books We Recommend to Startup Clients

Every once in awhile…we come across clients that are pretty clueless about startups and creating web applications. While we love to work with budding companies, and help emerging ideas blossom…sometimes, it’s nice when clients also work with a dose of “reality”. Here are 2 books we highly recommend to every company developing a web application, to both get real…and get started!

For Business…

reality-check“Reality Check” by Guy Kawasaki

Great resource for startups in particular. From a true valley insider /geekebrity/pundit/entrepreneur/VC/etc…this is truly a great read for understanding what to expect in any startup venture, and getting sober to the realities of the business.

Here’s an example of a little nugget of “reality check” wisdom (in my own words): If you think you don’t have any competitors…make one up. Cause either you’re too dumb to know who your competitors are, or too lazy to do a google search.

For Web Application Development…

getting-real“Getting Real” by 37signals

From the guy (David Heinemeier Hansson) who created today’s most influential programming framework for building web applications (Ruby on Rails)…this is a MUST read for every web entrepreneur.

It presents a philosophy behind of the process of building web software…efficiently & effectively. A very simple read, and it’s totally free online…so, no excuses.
